Gem Accountancy

Georgina makin - accountant

I went to Sandbach High School and Sixth Form College, where I sat my GCSE’s then continued there to complete my A-Levels. I always enjoyed Maths and Business Studies at school, which led me into following an accountancy career path. In the summer of 2012 I started my accountancy career at Howard Worth Chartered Accountants, in the autumn I started my Level 2 AAT which I completed in the spring of 2013, I went on to complete my Level 3 AAT during the summer of 2013. I continued to study Level 4 AAT, which I completed in the summer of 2014 and became a member of AAT.

I decided to continue my study further and started my ACCA exams. It was a great achievement for me to pass all my accountancy exams first time, resulting in me qualifying at the age of 23 in 2017.   While I was studying my career progressed from an accounts assistant to an accounts manager. I managed an extensive portfolio of clients while at Howard Worth all varying in size from a someone carrying out a trade part-time to £10m turnover companies, which required regular financial information and reporting to the finance directors. However, a lot of time was spent preparing statutory information which quite often was six plus months past the reporting date, not adding much value to the day to day running of a business. I decided to leave employment and start my own business as my passion was helping people/ businesses by providing them with the financial information they need to succeed.

Outside of studying/ working, I have grown up on a smallholding with horses, dogs, cats, chickens etc. I do love animals! Over the years I have had many achievements with the horses including representing England in 2009 for the Mounted Games team at Windsor Horse show, of which we won all sessions and overall Gold and competing in Spain for five weeks Show Jumping in 2015 coming home with many placings. I currently compete in Show Jumping a couple of times a month generally within the Northwest and Midlands with my horse Hugo and enjoy spending time with my husband and dog, Bella.

I would love to help equine businesses as I believe my combined accountancy and equine knowledge could help people in this industry.
